Precious – Epic Fail (Spoiler)

The movie Precious in my opionion was just fail. Plain and simple. Don’t get me wrong, I waited and waited for this movie to come out. I missed it in theatre’s which, being the theater junky that I am was rather surprising. I rented it the day it came out on video.

My daughter who is 8 years old and oddly infatuated with pregnant women (to the point that I think she’s probably headed towards a career as an OBGYN.) saw a preview that included the pregnant Precious and informed me that I might as well just buy it, as we’re going to watch it many many times.  I figured she was probably right, but I’d wanted to see the movie immediately, so I rented it from Redbox anyway, no reason I can’t rent than buy, well aside from the waist of a dollar.

I sat down to watch the movie with my entire family. Umm big mistake! I really have to learn to read ratings. I first saw the previews for this movie at a Tyler Perry Movie, and honestly, I was pretty sure it was similiar to a Tyler Perry movie. Nope, not the same, not close, don’t know why I assumed that.

To the makers of this movie.. it’s just smut. It’s real life smut, but .. nothing really good came of the movie. A young woman is raped, and gives birth to two of her fathers children. And then.. she’s diagnosed HIV Positive.

Nobody normal wants to watch rape, or incest for that matter, or the violent and jelouse abuse of a mother, we watch it for the happy ending, and c’mon now, at the very least, how about some steps to healing, making all this better? I realize precious got to tell her story, and it’s real life, but .. Mr. Writer, we all live real life everyday.

When we watch movies we want entertainment, or at the very least, a moral to the story.
